An action shot of the turtle egg painting process. Lots of trial and error went into figuring out the right colors and materials to use to make these eggs look as realistic as possible while still being waterproof and have access to the GPS system inside.
Good Magazine wrote a great article about it all. Link in bio. This photo is from that article.

Wilde Animals update! For the past year, Lauren has been working with Paso Pacifico to help design and create fake sea turtle eggs with GPS chips in them to track and help stop illegal turtle egg poaching. Her specific role in the design was to make the outer shell look as realistic as possible.
Turtle egg poaching is a serious problem affecting many turtle species. These specific eggs are replicas of the Olive Ridley turtle. We are close to deploying out the first batch of eggs! Doing what we can to make a difference!

After the animal head is sculpted and molded, I use latex and flexible foam to create a positive of the head from the mold. Here is a shot of the first positive I made from my new Mountain Gorilla mold! Next steps will be cleaning it up and painting/furring! #wildeanimals #mountaingorilla #workinprogress #wip #flexfoam #smoothon #fauxtaxidermy #endangeredart
